Marylebone Closed August 13 For Couple Of Weeks

According to Chiltern Railways Web Site here Marylebone will be closed from August 13.

Although the work they are doing relates to the Wycombe route to Birmingham, they need to close Neasden junction, which means no trains to and from Marylebone for a while.

This will make the Met trains rather busy.

If it has to be done, they picked a good time to do it: the closure is planned for 15 days, which means they can overrun a few days before the bank holiday weekend, term starts and passenger numbers are back to normal. Also, we're used to there being a reduced or non-existent service at weekends, so all in all, it doesn't sound too bad.

I take it this will have a direct knock-on effect on the Met? Not just with the congestion but the timing of the tubes departing and arriving at Amersham? Or am I mistaken?

As far as I have been able to find out, there are no changes to Met line train times. The Chiltern services terminating at Harrow are using the same paths as the normal through trains.

The impact will be busier trains on the Met, less chance of a seat on the way home!

As a result of Wycombe closure, Chiltern Railways has suggested there could be between 500 and 800 extra cars coming into Amersham during that week!

Consequently, CDC is considering turning part of King George V field into a temporary car park.

That might sound like a shame, especially during the summer hols, but if there really will be that many extra cars, it's probably a good idea. (Personally, I'm more worried about that many extra cars travelling to and from Amersham and clogging up the roads.)

See: Examiner article.

I understand it has been announced that from July 31, the 07:44 and 08:16 Met services from Amersham will now stop at all stations south of Harrow. This is because two trains from Uxbridge have been cut.

So, not only will this make these trains take longer to get into London, but busier too. This is not good news for when Met services will be busier from Amersham anyway during the Maryelone closure, great planning TFL!
