OK found out some more about the maps above... it relates to policy DH2... planning applications will be treated in accordance with this policy...

POLICY DH2: HOUSING PROPOSAL SITES
In order to contribute towards meeting housing need within the District to 2026
housing proposal sites identified in Table 2 {the ones in the maps posted by Hyposmurf] will be protected for housing
development, or in the case of mixed use developments for the housing element to
be required as part of the development. Proposals which may come forward on part
of these sites should be laid out to ensure that they do not prevent the development
of the remainder of the site.
The Council expects and will, where in accordance with the Development Plan,
encourage additional housing to come forward during the plan period from the
sources of new housing in Table 3.
Housing delivery against planned need to 2026 and a 5 year supply of housing will
be monitored throughout the plan period to ensure that the Core Strategy Strategic
Objective 1 is delivered.
When housing proposals are brought forward the Council will require them to
achieve efficient and effective use of land whilst having regard to the character and
appearance of the surrounding area and sustainable development objectives.

This is the DDPD... there is consultation now until April...

Zoom thanks for the additional info, is there any difference between the document you and I posted? :)

Quite a few of those proposed sites appear to be utilising land from existing large gardens. Are some of the gardens social housing?

I think your document was one of the appendices of the document I posted. I don't think there are differences..

The garden next to mine is one of the identified areas hence more than a little interest. However this designation of a "proposed area" does not mean the council are encouraging development in these areas or that there is any compulsory purchase or council development - it just means if someone makes a planning application in one of these areas that it would be expected to conform to the policy to be approved - specifically that a development should not prevent development of the rest of the identified area.
