The exhibition\,  \;supported by an All Our Stories grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund\, explores the story of the railway coming to Amersh am and the subsequent development of Amersham-on-the-Hill. The project tie s in with the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Metropolitan Railway .\n \;\nThe exhibition runs from Tuesday 14th May –\; Saturday 1s t June\, open every day 10am-4pm (except 19th and 20th May).\n \;\n\n& #160\;\nA large selection of historic photographs will be featured togethe r with audio and film clips and a fascinating collection of objects. He studies the violin with Mateja Marinkovic at the Royal Aca demy of Music. Over the past two years\, he has been making the most of th e musical life in London\, both playing in and attending concerts most wee ks. As well as leading the University of London Symphony Orchestra\, he ha s enjoyed appearing as director and soloist with various ensembles. Perfor mances of this nature have included Mozart s Sinfonia Concertante\, Vivald i s Four Seasons\, and three of Bach s Brandenburg Concertos. The Isle of the Dead is a symphonic poem inspired by the painting of the same name by Arnold Bocklin. The other work is Rachmaninov&rsquo\;s third piano concerto. The concert was originally planned as an all Beethoven concert (hence the title) however this season the orchestra has seen a big expansion in membership including several new brass players. As the planned concert would not have included most of the brass the orchestra has decided to add an additional piece. The concert w ill therefore begin with a performance of Brahms&rsquo\; Variations on the Saint Anthony Chorale arranged for brass by Eric Crees.\n\nThe rest of th e concert does stay with the original theme however. On Wednesday 10th April\, London Transp ort Museum Trustee\, Ian Arthurton will share the story of the Metropolita n Railway\, from its beginnings as London’\;s first underground railw ay in 1863\, its expansion into the Buckinghamshire countryside and its ab sorption into the London underground network.\n \;\nIan’\;s talk is the first in a series of four talks that explore the story of the railw ay coming to Amersham and the subsequent development of the ‘\;New to wn’\;\, Amersham-on-the-Hill.  \;In May (1st)\, London Transport Museum Curator\, Tim Shields\, will talk about the restoration of a first class Victorian carriage\, which featured in the 150th anniversary celebra tions of the Metropolitan Railway this year. In June (5th) local historian \, Julian Hunt\, will discuss the development of the shops and housing in Amersham-on-the-Hill. Completing the series in July (3rd)\, London Transpo rt Museum Research Fellow\, Oliver Green\, will put Amersham’\;s Metr o-land developments into the broader context of other Metro-land developme nts along the line.\n \;\nAll the talks take place in the evening in t he Barn Hall\, Community Centre\, Amersham-on-the-Hill.
