That's a bit unfair as I wasn't born then, although it sometimes feels like it.There isn't a voting option for those born in Amersham but no longer living there!
I was born in Amersham (1943) and lived there until 1961. My mother (aged 95) still lives there. I can trace both my maternal and paternal ancestors in the Amersham area back to the 1750s.
I'm afraid I regard anyone who moved to Amersham after the coming of the railway in the 1890s as a newcomer!

Parents (and their 4 boys) moved to Grimsdells Lane in 1966 buying their house for £2,500 (my first wife had things on her fingers that cost more than that!)
Got married in '86 and moved to Gillingham, Kent, then to Thornton Heath in '88.
Wife lost rings so got divorced and I moved back to Amersham in '89 but stayed just six months before moving to Wakefield, Leeds, Selby now Brayton (Nr York).
3 Brothers all moved out around same time, Steve to Newbury, John to Basildon, Tim to Oxford Uni. Parents moved to Bournemouth (stepping stone to heaven) around same time.

Hi Alison. I hope you had a happy Christmas. We only moved to Amersham a few years ago, so I can't help on the school front, but maybe someone else can. When did you last visit Amersham (it may be pretty different by now)?Hi everyone

Born 1964 just off Rayners Lane, lived there for 6 years, then Chalfont St Peter til age 21 (at school in Amersham, and Uni in Southampton), followed by 9 fairly nomadic years in Wycombe/Aylesbury/Hazlemere/Warwickshire, now settled in Seer Green.

The bushfires have been so tragic...
Are you in my home town for good?

But originally (for 40+ years) SE London.
Seems odd that I meet very few second generation Amersham residents. I spent the 10 years before I came here working all over the Country and in most places the majority of people had parents & grandparents living relatively locally, but most people I have met since coming here are first generation residents.

Obviously because of the easy access to London. I was born here 48 years ago my mother and grandmother still live in Amersham, my daughter who is 26 can not afford to buy here because of people moving out from London have increased property prices forty fold in the last thirty years.

Looking at the poll results seems to confirm my impression, at time I looked over 75% of responders had moved to Amersham from somewhere else. Not sure what inference to draw from this however.Macclesfield, Cheshire.

I was born in Amersham Hospital in 1973 (giving my age away) and lived in the 'better' part of Chesham for 26 years.
I Moved to Little Chalfont for 4 years and then onto Watford, where I lived for 3 years.
In 2006 I moved back to my roots in Old Amersham and loving every single moment..!
Looking at the votes it appears people like me are quite rare, in as much as, born in Amersham and living here, I notice most people are 'foreign' to the area and not born and bred in Amersham.
Enjoy the weekend,

What is native (maybe even tribal), a post code, a town, or maybe an area. I was born in Scotland, but at six months my parents moved to Croxley Green where I grew up. Whilst different, I still see it as local, but some will demarcate between Amersham and Chesham, or even Old Amersham and Amersham on the Hill. My memories of Stirling other than visiting family is zero, but I've nearly lived half my life here and my children have live it all here. Socaley it is interesting to know who and why, but maybe it is a good endorsement that people move to live here, unlike Cornwall when it is a holiday home and at the expense of the resident population.Hi,

Well spotted, Paul (I never quite understand why people get upset at necroposting - as long as it genuinely adds to debate, I don't see a problem with it. Yes, please tell us more, David, though perhaps in a new topic.Apologies for the necroquote, but Czechoslovakia would have been an exciting place in the late 60's. In a lot of ways Amersham is quite like Linlithgow; they have historical hearts, surrounded by countryside, offer easy commutes by car or train to major population centres and have good schooling.
Given all this though, both are relatively expensive places to live, but hey it's only money, right?

Moved in yesterday!
Even newer - moved in last Thursday! Back to the UK from India. Very happy. Before Delhi, we were in Tervuren 3080 (Belgium), before that Buenos Aires and before than Kentish Town. Loved living in London, but now have kids so needed to move out. We are looking forward to being part of Amersham (my mother in law was born in Shardeloes so maybe we are coming back to our roots!)
