We went with my daughter and her fiance at lunch time today, and ate from the normal main menu.

To start
June (Wife) had Onion Bhaji as she normally does, but rated the best she had had. The weren't stogy and yet not overly crisp and not oily.
Tash (Daughter) had Shimla Mirch (Pepper stuffed with mixed veg, Cottage Cheese, spices chilli bla) luckily no pattern on plate before she started.
Greg (Son in Law to be) had Tandoori Chicken he picked the bones clean and then enquired where he could buy a Tandoori oven from (really).
Alan (Me  ) had the Sheek Kebab, not very adventurous, but as this was unknown territory I was concerned about too much food as I hate waste, but know my limits, well with food anyway. :D

Main Course
June Chicken Rogan, Bombay Potato & Pilau Rice She couldn't finish it so boy had doggy bag, but has decided this replaces the restaurant we use in South Harrow.
Tash Tandoori King Prawn Masala, she left the shells and luckily all her fingers, wife nick half the sauce, Pilau Rice & Saag Paneer.
Greg Lamb Dopiaza, Pilau Rice, he enjoyed, but didn't make comments of excellence.
Me Lamb Chops (lots and fancy marinade, but forgot name, not one with sauce), Saag Bhaji, there was about 8 chops cooked to perfection, just pink, but not b*************, as for spinach it was about as fresh as it gets.

Sweet
June Some Toffee thing which had surface water and was sent back and changed for Lemon Sorbet (in a Lemon skin) Grrrrrrrrrreat)
Tash Skipped and had Irish Coffee
Greg Choc mint Ice Cream loved it, but seemed to be in a container that indicated it was bought not made
Alan Orange Sorbet again in Orange skin, not a sweet eater, but I ate this along with a nice espresso.

The decor is very modern and pleasant, good background music (it stayed that way), it wasn't very busy, but it's new and things are tight. We are going as a whole family tomorrow for the buffet (think £9.50) and when we booked it I noticed they had several bookings.

Was it good, well my barometer is the wife who is fussy, so with her it was a great hit, for me I'd say yes, in particular since I've only found one Indian in Amersham & Chesham over the years that goes that bit further, and sadly it's only a take away In Little Chalfont. I'll reserve a full thumbs up until I've tried the Buffet tomorrow, because if they pull that off then it will be my Local Indian.

Yes Fran I'm enjoying it although I go back in January 09, but making up for missed times. :D

Ah, sounds as if you're wife is better, which is good.

So you're planning to go to The Coriander two days running! It certainly sounds worth trying, and at least you don't mention there being any big TV screens. ;)

I remain a little doubtful as to whether there may be enough business for another Indian restaurant (especially in the current climate), but let's hope they and the others can make a go of things.

We had a takeaway from there the other week. They deliver, which is great.
Our meal included chicken tikka masala, saag bhaji, tarka dahl and garlic naan - very nice and we will certaily order from them again.
(In fact, because they deliver they will probably always get our custom as they are better than the other indian which delivers).

There was no screen on, so if one is there missed it, no wife not well, maybe better, but has refuse to go to hospital as advised by the ambulance crew and then a Doctor! and not 'Who'. If it lasts or others do will be a mark of their marketing and food!

Prices not bad for the quality £113, 3 courses, bottle of nice wine two pints of Kingfishers and 6 cokes, Irish coffee and espresso, for a good meal not an alright meal I think that's good. :D

Haven't been but I thought I'd point out that the web site is www.thecoriander.com

It is clearly one of small chain of restaurants, most in London judging by the web site. The menu looks very good. :)

I've been a bit slow as the wife is in Hospital and has been since last Sunday when we had the Buffet (that's not the reason).
Again the food was great obviously a more limited choice, but thing kept being brought to the table like Nan breads and various unusual courses to try, Yum Yum. Day got broken a bit by the wife feeling to unwell and my son took her home as we had all the family and a guest. The atmosphere decor, and utensils are very up market, my only negative observation is the the lack of staff at this time in particular with the Buffet which was busy, I suspect this is due to it finding its feet and building up business, but it can result in short delays, this doesn't bother me as I like time and don't want to be rushed, that said the staff are good and one in particular on Sunday has a great wit that makes you feel very welcome, it is informal, but not rude or assuming. I think they need to develop things a little to get it spot on, but they are along way there and we will definitely us it again, must try take away next. :D :)

We had a takeaway from the Coriander last week (instead of Lemon Grass) and we all had some of everything.

Two of the three main dishes were very tasty; the third was fine, but had a slightly dilute taste, though that may have been a poor choice on our part. All three were meat in sauce and looked somewhat plain and similar, whereas at Lemon Grass you get more visible herbs and vegetables mixed in, but we'd ordered some veg as a side dish, so it wasn't a problem. The nans and rice were OK, so overall, we couldn't decide which of the two we prefer.

Definitely worth a try though as most of the differences are neither good nor bad, just a matter of personal preference.

I've never took the time before to write a review on a restuarant I've been to. But The Coriander is worth taking the time to register, waiting to be confirmed and then finally get to be able to write a comment. I'm a South African from a very small remote Norhern town in the Limpopo Province (aka for REALLY NORTH). We didn't have a curry house, Chinese, Taiwanese or even a McDonalds. So when I came to England 5 years ago, I had no clue about Onion Bargies (as I thought they were spelt) or even about 'Tickle my muscles' which I now know is Chicken Tikka Masala. Go figure. So every time I went with my new British found friends to a Curry, I'd let them do the ordering because I had no clue. I absolutely love papadoms and the different naan breads. On Friday night 19th December we went to the Coriander and I got separated at the table from my Very Longsuffering husband. Hence I decided to take the ultimate plunge and order myself. I did decide however to ask for the waiters' help (since I once thought that Phal was Vindaloo... or Saag aloo...). Probably the most nicest and helpful waiter, Aslam, decided to personally help me through my meal. First I decided to have the onion bhaji as a starter. Since I remotely knew what it was. It was great. It wasn't one huge ball of onion twisted around until the all the moisture got twisted out. It was 3 nice sized (not too big) succulent onion bhaji's. Perfect. Then I asked Aslam to recommend another starter (I eat like a trash can but suprisingly is not obese...) He recommended the King Prawn Pathia Puri. What a choice. It was fantastic! Prawns on a tiny pancake. My main dish he recommended Adha Diya (pieces of chicken or lamb cooked with lots of garlic, ginger, coconut and cream - garnished with spring onions). You know my response by now. Absolutely fantastic! My Saag aloo complemented it wonderfully as well as the coriander rice (recommended by Aslam of course!). I was way to full and content to worry about desert. Sorry... Wish I could recommend a desert but I rolled out of there! If you do anything in 2009... Go to The Coriander. The service and friendliness was out of the ordinary and Aslam made my experience one I'll never forget.

We have only tried a takeaway and found it average. I agree with Fran that the some dishes appeared to be diluted and we found the dishes main dishes were indistinguishable, (chicken jalfrezi, lamb shaslick and mahali murgh masala. However, the starters were good as we always try the onion bhaji and King prawn puri as a test.

Generally after living in Harrow have not been overly impressed by the Bucks south asian restaurants.

I lived and worked in Harrow, some years back and agree the choice was good, we used and sometimes still do for special occasions the Curry Mahal in Northolt Rd South harrow.

My boyfriend and I had a takeaway there about a week or so ago. We may have just been unlucky and I suppose it was a Saturday night so they were probably busier than normal, but when we ordered, we were told to collect in half an hour and when he got there, he had to wait for half an hour before the food was ready!

Maybe it was just teething problems, but we had: Sag Paneer, Tandoori Chicken, Tarkha Daal and rice - so quite a small meal, but everything was poor and tasteless. The Sag Paneer was sloppy and bland, the tandoori chicken was also very disappointing indeed! We definitely prefer Lemon Grass and we will not be trying it again for some time. :(

Hello all,

I went to the coriander last sunday for an evening meal.

Were made to feel welcome on arrival, the waiter was very chatty, The menu was broad and had some good choices, and they served cobra beer..... All good so far!!

we had some pompadoms (check spelling) with dips and nam breads for starters, which were all very nice, I'd guess all the dips bar one were freshly made, the pompadoms were freshly cooked as well, (which is a nice change)

main course, my date had a roasted salmon dish for her main, which was pretty well cooked, (might have been better cooked off a grill plate), but still had moisture in and overall i good looking well presented dish.

Now i had the Tandori Grill, ( i'm a sucker for any kind of mixed grill) This came out in a sizzerling pan which i'm sure turns heads normally, The dish was ok, i would not write home about it, but i enjoyed it all the same, the nam breads were cooked perfectly, and the peri rice we had was great. (the thing about any mixed grill, is that for £12 its never going to be kobi beef and AA King prawns, but i enjoyed the food all the samw and felt I got very good value for money)

Did not need deserts as was choca block, but overall a good experiance, and would go back.

Remember i own a local resturaunt, so i'm quite hard to please.... but as eastern style cooking goes they scrub up pretty well for that price range.

Good luck to you guys

I went today with my girlfiend and give it a good thumbs up. It was very nice inside, made a change from the dark indian resturants im used to, I wont go on, the onions u get with the popadum were lovely coated in corriander, we had the butterfly prawn to start, which was nice but nothing amazing, the murgh hara jhul (chicken, yoghurt, garlick, corrider, green chillis and whole grain mustard and olive oil) was lovely and well worth the 8 quid! we had the chicken korma which was lovely and sweet, plenty of bits of chicken, and the peshwari nan and corriander rice which make a lovely change from the usual pilau rice,

lovely meal will def go again, am reluctant to try the others now! price was good to, came to 34 quid
only downside was maybe could have done with one or 2 more waiters around

Had a delivery from Coriander on Saturday night. Arrived 15 mins later than expected but we do live in a road in a town where gritters are almost never seen. As ever, whether it is in restaurant or take away, food was excellent and service very friendly. A great replacement for Herbs and Spices, which has been "Mangoed"
