Chiltern Railways are proposing a direct rail route from Oxford, via Wycombe, to London.

Whilst it wouldn't come via Amersham, I don't know if there would be any knock-on effects from passengers, investment and revenue being spread over more routes.

See BFP story, which includes details of where and when you can see the proposals.

I think this would be a useful service. It would not compete for speed from oxford to Paddington, but it would improve access to oxford on public transport from bucks.

Chiltern have been thinking about this for a while, so don't hold your breath. They also thought about Aylesbury to Milton Keynes, no real progress on that idea yet, although Milton Keynes station has been expanded ready for the service

Yes at first glance it seems like a good idea.Oxford isnt easy to get to get to from Bucks without a car.Improving transport to the Birminghham has to be a good thing to, as the population increases people will have to move further out of London.

It is a good idea, but if I'm right in saying, they would need to construct a link from their existing line at Bicester North to the Oxford line serving Bicester Town first before through services can be achieved. Seems a shame they don't look at Aylesbury Vale Parkway to Milton Keynes first, especially as the trackbed already exists (albeit mothballed).

A new chord would be needed. There is currently a service from Oxford to Bicester Town (different station to Bicester North which Chiltern serve with trains to Banbury and beyond) but it is not that regular. More cross country services should be good.

Chiltern have details at http://www.chilternr...o-london-route/
