It looks like it's open, I'll have another look tonight when I drive past to confirm.
My brother thought it open last night as he drove past. Be good to get some first reports from anyone who has tried it

Expensive compared to Nautilus, £6.50 for fish and chips.
Probably not fair to compare two shops on the first day as the new shop obviously has brand new fat.
Small portion of chips would food two and were crisp and dry, and hot enough to burn your mouth.
Cod was as big as is served in hill ave. However my Rock which was very nice.Nice crisp dry batter was only half the size of a similar priced piece from Nautilus.

Might buy my chips there and Rock from round the corner. That said, yes I will go back and try something else in a couple of weeks to see if the quality has changed.

The "Amersham Fish shop" looks very inviting and I will definitely give it a try. However, last night I saw a car clamped on the corner, very near to the fish shop, which is a bit scary !! It was still there this morning
The car park behind is pay and display, not sure what time in the evening this ends but that of course will add 50p to the price of your meal.

It's there virtually everyday taking advantage of the fact that where it is/was parked there are no yellow lines and no parking bay so it parks for free. I wonder why it was clamped? Unless they've marked out a parking bay or lines that I've not noticed. However, last night I saw a car clamped on the corner, very near to the fish shop, which is a bit scary !! I think its a shame that clamping is coming to an end, we already have parking anarchy in Amersham.
It might have been a better move to alow the clamping companies to regulate the streets, then maybe we would have less parking on double yellows and footpaths.

Is it? I thought it was just going to be regulated, so that some of the horror stories the press gets excited about no longer happen.I think its a shame that clamping is coming to an end...

As I believe it the new legislation forbids all clamping on private land. As someone who hires out parking spaces in aprivate car park I will no longer be able to use the clamp as a detterant, but I can issue a penalty charge notice. However this to me does not seem much of detterant and I can fore see irate people calling me to say that the space they have paid me for is taken by someone.

The car that had been clamped was still there; and the notice on it said it had been clamped because it had no valid Tax Disc.
I had the cod & chips (I didn't want to wait, so had what was ready); The chips were really yummy and ate far too many of them!!. The Cod was OK but would try the Haddock next time, as this is what I would normally have, but would go back for the chips alone.
The people working in the shop were very friendly and had a bit of a laugh with them. They gave us a little sample of chips while we were waiting, which was very welcome as I was really hungry.

If it is a Volvo it has been parked there without moving for about 2 months. You can tell by the red paint splashed on the wheel matching the marks on the ground. As it is a Council Car Park I suspect it is a Council Road. I had been thinking of putting up an item to see whether anybody else had seen this car parked for so long, but I was away "up north" last week.

I tried the new Amersham Fish Bar last night and we all enjoyed the takeaway cod and chips. Big portions and great chips, compared to Nautica who I always feel undercook their chips. £16.50 for 3 x medium cod and chips so quite pricey.

As it is a Council Car Park
last time I looked it was still a private car park, albeit charged - when did it change?

As I live within walking distance I only ever walk past and do not use the car park. Because it is Pay & Display I have always assumed it was Council controlled, but I could be wrong.

There was a reasonable choice of things other than fish (scampi, chicken, sausage, saveloy, pies, mushy peas), but I thought if I was going to capitulate, I might as well go the whole cod. It was a really good piece of fish, with excellent texture and it did actually taste of fish. I'm not a fan of batter, but this one wasn't bad. The portions seemed large to me, but may be typical of chippies.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised.

The portions of chips are so large that one between two is plenty.
Only 2 adverse comments, they are really expensive and having asked and paid for 1 large and 1 medium cod, they just dished me up 2 medium and refunded me a pound without asking me whether in view of the fact that they had run out of large I wanted to revise my order. Perhaps this will be just a one off problem, but I do have a thing about shops not asking before revising an order as I find it rude. Won't stop me from returning unless it becomes a regular problem.

Subsequent fish supper also good with fish done in a nice crispy batter.
Yes a little more expensive but certainly the best I've had round here,

I believe that they actually double fry the chips, which is the way chips should be done!
The late, and much lamented, Plough at Winchmore Hill used to triple fry them. We had the annual get together there a few years back and they were the best chips anywhere.

Tried it out on Saturday evening. Fish was very nice and chips were a treat, had given up having fish and chips for a while because the chips in the existing shop in Hill Avenue are so disgustingly soggy and fatty. Will probably make it a regular thing now.

Tried again last Saturday. Longer queue BUT got exactly what I wanted, chips perfect and fish superb. Looks like we will be back to a weekly visit now which is great as it is only since coming to Amersham 7 years ago that we have given up this weekly treat due to the awful quality at the f&c shops locally.
