We're in the process, all being well, of moving to South Heath. Could anyone tell me what sort of broadband speed we might get?

Also, is there any reception with any mobile phone provider? So far, have tried T-mobile, Orange and O2 without success - and Vodafone's website says there's no coverage. So not looking good for mobile reception!

And, of course, we're aware of HS2 ;-)

Thanks in advance
G.

Sam Knows can give you a very rough idea on what to expect:

Thanks Timo. That link confirms our fears - apparently we should be able to get either 512 kbps (it'll be like 1999 again!), or up to 3.5 Mbps (which is about half what we have where we are now). BT's own website tells us we should get 2.5 Mbps. This is not good news, but thanks for the link!

I understood that Great Missenden exchange was getting FTTC next year, but I hadn't factored in that they apparently have no plans to take it the other side of the A413, so there'll be 30Mbps+ from the exchange to the edge of Missenden but only about 3Mbps (best case) in South Heath :-(

If Be or O2 are offering a service at your exchange you might get slightly better speeds with them. Sam Knows says I should be getting 6.5Mb or above and I get 14-15Mb in CSG with Be/O2.

Also if you have Virgin cable to the building you should get pretty good speeds that are not distance dependant.

Thanks for that info. Sadly I think the distance from the exchange and the means of connection (a string on some poles) means poor speed whoever's LLU equipment is used at the exchange. And no Virgin cable there AFAIK.

On the plus side, it looks like I might have been wrong about FTTC - it seems they are taking it to the cabinet in South Heath, so that will help (I guess we might get about 9 Mbps) although it won't happen until the end of the year or early 2012.
