I use Amersham Dental Care on Station Road http://www.amershamdentalcare.com/
They seem fine and they provide a family dental plan if you go private.

After we moved into the area last year the closest NHS dentist would could take us was Nightingale Dental Care in Little Chalfont. None in Amersham itself were taking on new NHS clients.

I'd happily recommend http://www.lindfield-dental.co.uk/ in Amersham.
Dentists in general make me quite anxious, but I've become more comfortable over recent weeks despite undergoing root canal work and a number of fillings (my own fault for putting it off for 8 years!!).
This is a private practice only.
