I'm considering having my driveway resurfaced. I know that there are a lot of cowboy operators out there so if anyone can recommend a good, reliable contractor I would be grateful.

Thanks.

Mark Kirby. Chitern Surfacing. Not sure of his number but should be in BT directory. Can not fault his work. It is praised on here on another thread. Local man, born in Amersham.

Rob James - went to school with him and he did a very good job of my driveway.

Thanks for the recommendations. I've asked for quotes from both.

Cheers.

I'll be choosing the provider very soon and will be arranging for the work to be done in early May so will be able to provide feedback after then.

I chose Mark Kirby of Chiltern Surfacing. I'm pleased to say that he and his men did a first class job is spite of the appalling weather conditions at the time and both my wife and I are very pleased with the result. I have no hesitation in recommending him.

His contact numbers are:

Landline: 01494 433134
Mobile: 07885371523

Recently also used Mark at Chiltern Surfacing. A decent price and a good job overall. I can recommend them. Not so impressed by Greystoke in Little Chalfont, however, who, after spending half an hour at our house measuring up, wrote the next day to say they couldnt do the work due to BBC filming committments.....odd

I Would Not Recommend Mark Kirby After Quality Of Driveway Tarmac

Mark did the the tarmac on my driveway, and I am not happy with the results.
I was working on my car today, and the tarmac has lifted / melted where I was bending down.

There is something wrong with the mixture used.

He does not return telephone calls, and when he does, is abrupt and abusive.

I would strongly recommend that you use someone else.

Not great to hear that about your drive, but thanks for sharing your experience of his services.

Sorry to hear this - but I can also confirm that out drivewqay has started to melt - and not even on the days the temperature has hit 30c (he did the drive less than a year ago). It was melting in 20C a few weeks back. I was thinking of phoning him but given what you say perhaps I won't risk it as I can not cope with that kind of attitude. Perhaps we should all spread the word to avoid him at least?

Melting tarmac is evidently quite common. The BBC posted an article on the subject earlier this week:

Mark Kirby has not had the courtesy to respond to my messages.

The whole thing is turning into a farce.

I was working on my VW camper last weekend, bent down working, and the tips of my none steel toecapped boots started to sink into the tarmac. I think Mark Kirby has used the wrong density of bitumen.

You should contact him, but please do prepare yourself for an individual whose communications skills are lacking.

As a point of reference, his 01494 number is his mothers number.

Apparently all tarmac melts in hot weather....... The best advice I can offer is to tamp down the melting tarmac, and use a board for any load (like a ladder) in case the tarmac moves.

It seems in this current hot weather some councils are sending grifters out to cover the melting tar with some Hofmann of dust to try and stop it melting. I remembers from my child hoods some roads often seemed to melt

Hi,

Has anyone used Creative Driveways

http://www.creative-...eways.com/home/

I think a couple of houses in my road have them, but wanted feedback if anyone has experience of them?

Happy for a pm if you don't want to post on here.

Regards

Nikki
