Any trains from Amersham to London so far today? I can't get onto the real travel info on line - obviously very busy this morning! Thanks.

The Chiltern Line was running, with delays of 10-20 mins. No Met line at all. And once you get to Marylebone, it just gets worse :(

General confusion, as usual. I travel in to London from Chalfont. On arrival at the station at around 7:10, I'd just missed a Chiltern train, and an announcement was made that the Metropolitan trains weren't running at all. So what was the next southbound train, 15 minutes later - Metropolitan, of course. Timetable seemingly abandoned too.
Give me non-stop laughter, dispel disaster, or the Rotters Club might well lop off your ears.

Luckily had a meeting in Amersham, so did not need to get to the station until 9:45. Horrible walk there, on arrival just missed a Met, but I Chiltern turned up at 10. There were announcements from the staff that they had no details of when the next Met service would be. That was slightly disappointing to know that they did not have any news.

Talking of trains today, I had to go up to town this morning and I usually always time it for the Chiltern Line ones when I have to do this, but a tube pulled in just as I got on the platform so I got on.

I'd forgotten just how ruddy uncomfortable they are! Bouncy, jerky, swervy and everything else you don't want a train to be. If I'd been a little old lady (and I'm not) I'd have been bounced right off the seat, or thrown off sideways when it lurched at one point. I didn't catch this train til about 10am so it was virtually empty and there wasn't the crush of bodies that there is during rush hour to hold you into your seat!

Came home on a lovely, smooth, comfortable (and faster) Chiltern Line from Marylebone.

Every time I do this trip I wonder how people do it every day - I work close to home most of the time and feel very lucky!

Great respect to you daily London commuters, you must need bruise cream for your bottoms! :o

p.s. the tubes all round London are usually fine and not so bouncy and it's great using them (except when I have my face pressed into someones armpit) - is it just the Metropolitan line that is quite so springy???

The trains on the Met are the oldest in the UndergrounD fleet. They were designed in the 1950s and made in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Even when new, the ride was not good. Up until about 10 to 15 years ago, they were permitted to run at 70mph, but have now been restricted to 50. In years gone by it was quite an incredible ride at maximum speed going over the points around Neasden. The poor ride is a combination of track conditions and the suspension. The Chiltern fleet has a different suspension which makes for a better ride, but in places they too can shake around over parts of the track.
