As my board name suggests i have 5 children, although only 3 still young enough to live at home still. I know how lucky i am to live in such a lovely little town and after studying the history and becoming part of it i hope that one day my children will too realise how fortunate they are/were......

Well Mrs FiveHi there, i am reletively new to the forum so thought i would say a proper Hi..... I have alaways lived in Old Amersham, in fact in the same house and attended St Marys school as did my mum before me and my 5 children after me!!!! I have researched my family tree and found that mums family hail from Coleshill and dads from Little Kingshill so i guess that makes me a "real" local girl. I have seen many changes in the old town but can still remember as if it was yesterday the excitement we all felt when Tescos finally opened! The VG store that served us before wasnt really up to much , and the disappearence of the bakers and the fruit and veg shop made it much worse and for those of us without a car Tescos became "heaven" ...

You humble us, as a father of 3 living and 2 not, I can not imagine a more suitable place to grow up and live, if money was suddenly no object, I'd buy a better place, not move.

I am relatively new to the area - well I have been here for fifteen months. I live in Little Chalfont with my husband and little baby and I am really keen to find out more about the area and local services. Prior to Little Chalfont I lived in London and absolutley love living here.

Hello and welcome. Having a small child can provide good openings for meeting people, initially via toddler groups and later via nursery and school.Hello Everyone

Morning Geoff, welcome to the site and the town.

Has there been a thread who comes from where originally? Although I went to sixth form at Challoners I grew up in Pinner and Northwood, before Ruislip, and when moving to Chalfont St Peter 5 or 6 years ago was amazed at how many people round these parts have moved out from Middlesex. I live in Seer Green now - I guess this post can count as my introduction as I haven't posted one before - hi all!

I know several people who live here now and have come from the Harrow postal area. I assume you've browsed before, so welcome may not be appropriate salutations, so good to see you posting, hope it's the first of many.Has there been a thread who comes from where originally? I'm 36, and was born in Amersham Hospital in 1971. I spent the first 16 years of my life in Old Amersham, going to St. Mary's School. Despite not having lived in Amersham for over 20 years I'm sure I could navigate around it blindfolded today, such was my familiarity with it when I was a child there.
I enjoyed the pictures of the Gasometers put on the website, a real blast from the past! Anyone remember when the Bowyers' factory was a going concern as well?
Regards
Adrian

Hello Adrian,
I certainly remember the smell of the Bowyers factory! I was once stuck in traffic behind a lorry delivering a load of live pigs, they were making an awful screaming noise - not sure that the theory that these animals don't know where they are going is all that true.

For those that don't know, it was situated on the land that is now the Tesco car park.

The Bowyers Factory was a land mark in many ways for years. I still am trying to track down a picture of it for the site.

Another newbie alert here.
Been lurking for a while, but had an urgent need to post today, so I signed up.
Lived in Chalfont St Peter since 1970 (attended DCGS 1976-82; anyone else on here from that era??; and used to drink in the Swan, then the Saracens and then the Iron Horse) and now live in Seer Green. Working in the IT game for the last 20-odd years. Interests include genealogy and wildlife.
Cheers

Hi Dave. I'm from the same era (also starting senior school in the year of the drought), though I wasn't in Amersham then. However, I too have been in IT for nearly 20 years, though not as an uber techie (I translate the techie stuff to real language that (hopefully) users can understand).Lived in Chalfont St Peter since 1970 (attended DCGS 1976-82; anyone else on here from that era??... Working in the IT game for the last 20-odd years. Interests include genealogy and wildlife.
