Oh cool! Well, there's lots to aim at around here and we do like to put our pictures up on the website.

PS. I'm glad you didn't say philosophy or the conversation would have ended with me going.. ummm errrr. :)

Do people post their pictures up on here then?

Oh philosophy? ha i wouldn't have a clue about that at all, I'm not really that sort of person...more creative.

LOVE: Board games, Scrabble, Mah Jong, cats, eating out, chocolate, Liverpool Football Club, country walking
HATE: Slow drivers, speed cameras, cooking, housework, dieting, very hot weather

Hello Maryann. I love Scrabble too (do you play for real or on line?) and enjoyed Mah Jong years ago before I forgot how to play. I don't think I have time to relearn it just now, but maybe one day. As for speed cameras, be warned that that topic occurs regularly, at length and can get a little heated.

And hi to Amy too - but I've already "spoken" to you on another thread.

I'm a former professional photographer and cameraman, now working in the Audiovisual inductry.

That too! You really must post your full CV for us - what is there that you haven't done?

Amy, David P also mentioned this week that he's into photography as well (on the Congratulations Nicola Sanders thread I think).

;) David P - Why "Oh dear" ????????? I've only been done for speeding twice (both times on Scots Hill in Ricky). But my daughter keeps pointing out that I could lose my licence driving from Ricky to Watford (4 sets of speed cameras, 3 points a time).

Hi Fran - I play Scrabble for real, can't work up any interest in playing it online. Also play Mah Jong for real - a westernised version of the original Chinese game, not the silly pairs version that you get on computers. We play both games with a group of friends, about once a month. Anyway, you can't chat and gossip with a computer!

Things i dislike are: Arrogant and rude people, people who brake rules, for exmaple; driving whilst talking on your mobile! smoking, impatient people. That's about it i think. Oh and CHAVS!!!

Hi Amy

Think I've already welcomed you, however I don't think we'll be best mates, as I sit here puffing away!!

Yes, I usually play Scrabble with real people (family), which is far more interesting, but occasionally I play against my Palm/PDA. As for Mah Jong, I meant the real version - I'd be worried for my sanity if I forgot how to play the PC pairs game that merely uses MJ tiles.

Well I don't hate the people who smoke i'm just not keen on the smell really. Lots of my friends smoke and it doesn't bother me as it is up to them what they do but it's just one thing i would never ever think about doing.

I enjoy walking and appreciating local countryside ( which is why I left London ) I am an avid reader, enjoy socialising/eating out and spending time with my close friends ( most of which are still in London ) I enjoy going the movies, as long as there is something decent on, which there doesn't seem to have been for a while (sigh) and just chilling out in the garden, glass of red in hand :)

Smart young lady! ;)

I've never smoked.

I can't stand the smell either! I am trying to convince my partner to give up smoking at the moment.

Not doing very well though.

Hello there,
I'm Maryann and I signed up yesterday. I was browsing, looking at ideas for restaurants and pubs to celebrate my forthcoming birthday, and stumbled across your excellent website - so here I am. I've never used any sort of forum like this before, except for the ones run by computer magazines, so I'm a complete novice at this.

We've lived in Chorleywood for ages, and really like it here - lived in Harrow before. We tend to go towards Amersham for shopping, library etc. Chorleywood is great for very local shopping, but for a larger "shop" Amersham's the place. We're midway between Amersham and Rickmansworth, but I far prefer Amersham. I've got a Love - Hate relationship with Tesco: whatever direction I go, the biggest shop is Tesco. I hate it while I'm there, but if I go somewhere else I love it (i.e. Tesco) because nowhere else is quite as good or sells what I want. Rickmansworth is about to get a brand new Waitrose store - wish it was going to Amersham instead.

LOVE: Board games, Scrabble, Mah Jong, cats, eating out, chocolate, Liverpool Football Club, country walking

HATE: Slow drivers, speed cameras, cooking, housework, dieting, very hot weather

Bye for now.

PS: What do all those little symbols mean that look like little coloured suitcases, can someone tell me???

Mary Ann
If you are who I think you are from Harrow then this planet is shrinking.

ONLY twice! Both in the same place! Can you not see that big, bright yellow box on top of a pole? :o
If you'd been watching this forum earlier this year you would have known what my reaction would be. But I'll not bore everyone by going on about it again.

Hi, I'm TGS.

As you will probably have guessed, I'm new here.

I go to Challoner's, detest almost all sport but quite like most academic subjects.

Good bad list

Good
  • Science (at school)
  • English (at school)
  • IT (at school)
  • PS3 (at home)
  • PC games (at home)
  • Mucking around on an animation program called Maya which they used in the Spiderman and Harry Potter films (at home and school)
  • Playing my instrument (home and school)
  • cycling (to and from home/school)
Bad (in order of evilness, furthest down is worst)
  • Having to do sports
  • People driving whilst talking on their mobile.
  • smoking generally
  • Having to play cricket
  • Having to do running
  • Smoking in enclosed spaces (which I shouldn't have to put up with much)
  • Having to do cross country

Welcome to the forum, TGS. It's good to have input from the younger generations as well as the older ones.

I share your views on sport and cycling (not enough places to chain up bikes in Amersham) and at least in the virtual world you won't have to worry about whether anyone you're talking to is smoking or not. :)

Good afternoon everyone

I've been a member of the forum for a day or so now and already i am getting requests for further information about myself lol, and i have been told this is the best place to put extra information.

So a brief history of Mike James.

I'm from Salford North Manchester and lived there most of my life, went to the local comp school at aged 11-16 and left with 10 gcse's all A-C.

Despite most advisors suggesting that i went to Sixth Form to study for A-levels and University, i decided to take up an offer of employment from a family friend. This was to become a trainee landscape architecht and site consultant.

So between the ages of 16-20 i was trained "in house "on a number of projects including the new piccadilly gardens in Manchester, and the Newcastle urban regenartion scheme. Aged 20 i passed my exams and became fully qualified in my chosen profession, something which is quite notable, because many have to go to university to gain this, i was, in the words of my personal tutor "very much coming through the back door".

Just after qualifying, the firm i worked for split, mainly due to a difference in opinions at top level management. I decided to follow the person i had been brought into the firm by into a new firm he set up. He offered me partnership in the firm.

12 months after this my mentor if you will decided to take a backseat in runnig the firm, and just became a non executive advisor to myself and other projects. (He still takes some profit though :S)

About 12 months ago myself along with a hastily recruited bid team went for a contract linked to the London 2012 Olympic games and succesfully won.

Thus meaning that part of the business would have to move south, hence my impending move to amersham. Thankfully the "retired" partner has come out of retirement to manage other projects whilst i focus solely on this.

You may be thinking well the design phase is only 1-2 years at most, this is true, however as a trained site consultant, i will be doing what i love the most about this job, getting my hands dirty.

In temrs of my personal life, there is not much to tell really, 22 years old, single, no kids, 2 brothers one younger one older, former semi professional footballer, keen amateur cricketer and have a passing interets in most other sports.

I am heavily into going to the gym and have been for 6 years or so now, im not a typical 22 year old, mainly because of my business and the constraints it puts on me, i am however very scoiable, something of a joker, and if i do say so myself, a bit of a charmer.

If you want to know anythign else, just message me

See you soon

Mike

My degree is in Photography and Digital Imaging.

Interesting - I did Photographic Science (PEIS) at PCL/University of Westminster and I now work in TV post production.

I'm an ex-smoker, but I'll gladly confess that tobacco smells and tastes really good. Strangely, you enjoy more once you no longer do it habitually. I'd probably still ban it if I were given power to, TBH.

Well hello... as a newbie on this forum I thought I might just as well introduce myself.

My name is Ash, and Funkydoodycool is the name of my website (add a www. and a .co.uk and away you go), on which you can find samples of and links to more of my art work, which is my biggest hobby. Asides from that, I listen to music at any available time, I play too many video games, and I love cycling. Amersham's got some nice woodland around, although they're too small, and I do get fed up having to ride back up to the top of the hill whichever way I go from home! I also spend a little too much time browsing internet forums.

I also play guitar, and am currently putting together a demo in order to get a band together. Some of you may have heard of Gareth Ainsworth's (QPR winger) band, Dog Chewed the Handle. Once upon a time I was in that band (before he was), and I've recently got back in touch with those guys, so will hopefully be supporting them on a few gigs soon. I also play open mic at the Horns in Watford from time to time, although less so since I moved from Watford and now have no car.

I grew up between Watford and Rickmansworth, moving to Amersham 6 months ago to be closer to work, and because its not such a bad little town. Fine, you've got the kids hanging around and your fair share of ASBO cases, but then so has every town in the country.

As for work... I spent 10 years in insurance, at one point running a small brokerage office, before realising that £10,500 is not adequate pay for the work I was doing (I was young!). I've gone through most areas of insurance in that time, working towards setting up my own brokerage, when I got fed up of not being able to afford my rent. So I moved in with my gran, and got a job with... London Underground, and started saving. The insurance thing is something I may go back to, but to be honest I love my job now, more than any other I've done. I get to meet loads of nice people every day, and doing shifts may mean getting up at 04.30 every morning, but it also means that by 2 I've got the day to myself to do my own work (as listed above). For a bit of further background, I took this job to follow in my grandfather's footsteps. He was a manager on London Buses until he retired in the 80s.

Current plans, asides from the band and selling some of my artwork, include the possiblity of moving to Cornwall and setting up a B&B, something that won't happen for a few years yet!
