Cheers Gary - thanks for the welcome - I know South Harrow fairly well - I worked there for a few years and dated a girl who lived there (about 20 years ago...ouch!) I had a drink in the Half Moon pub about three weeks ago - it wasn't too bad actually - it served London Pride which is always a good thing in my books.

Yes, looking forward to all the local stuff - and a bit of Tesco bashing - loving the car park arrangements there!

Hibbert Rd... Locket Rd... Belmont School.... Wealdstone FC!!!.. the things of my childhood. We lived on Locket Rd, the Belmont end, by the bus stop. And I know more than I want to know about Belmont School in Hibbert Rd (later Mountview?, now just a primary school?) as we had to walk back up Locket Rd every evening in our green Salvo blazers while hundreds of the Belmont mob came the other way. And Wealdstone FC - I used to watch them back in the days of George Duck and the "non-league double". How the mighty have fallen!

When we looked out of the kitchen window of our flat we could see one of the goalposts at Wealdstone. We'd only been in there about 6 months before it was bulldozed. Do you remember Harrow market when it was at Wealdstone FC?

My mum lived near Locket Road as a child, my husband was bought up in Grange Road, off Bonnersfield Lane near the old cinema.

My brother in law lives in South Harrow and I went to school at Rooks Heath. Happy Days!!!

Small world! Belmont middle is still there - Mountview was in Fisher Road (the end of Hibbert Rd) but that went a few years back and is now houses. Salvo eh? arch enemies of my terrible High School Gayton! Now that was a bad school...!

Yes I used to go to Bogarts and Splitz on Shaftesbury Circle (now a McDonalds).

What about Tudors opposite the Railway Pub in Wealdstone! Now that really was a dump but I have many fond memories of it. For one it's the first time that my husband (obviously not then) and I kissed and on the same night he proceeded to run up the main road towards Harrow with his jeans and boxer shorts around his ankles. Classy club, classy man!!

My husband went to Gayton, he left in 1984, his brothers left in 1982 and 1985.

Well 'good mate' of Alf, I'm his wife of almost 14 years!!!I'll mention you to him. Unsurprisingly he's out on the razzle dazzle tonight so it won't be until the morning. Angelo now lives in Auckland, New Zealand with his wife and 3 daughters. Paul lives in South Harrow and Alf's mum and dad live in Spain, they moved back there about 9 years ago.

Rooks Heath when I drive past there now on going home time there are usually three to four police officers talking to the children as theyt wait for buses. My school was Eliots Green ,now called Northolt High.

I went to Bogarts or the Tithe Farm a few times, but mostly went to the Oldfield , which is now flats.

Rooks Heath isn't as bad as the press that they get. My son goes to Rooks Heath and before he went there, I was dreading it, due to the bad reputation it has, but on meeting the head teacher and staff, it was nothing short of inspirational. He has turned that school around like no-one's business and even won London Headteacher of the Year award from evening standard last year.

If my son fails to get a Grammar school placement now we've moved, I will certainly not be sending him to Chesham park community college, but will be keeping him at Rooks Heath.

Northolt High? Don't talk to me about that place, have just spent 6 years living round corner from there and I felt intimidated to step foot outside my door when the kids were around.

Hi All,

I'm another "lurker". I've been reading the forum for a couple of years, with just the occasional post, so thought it was about time to introduce myself.

My name's Jarrod (surprise, surprise) and I moved to Amersham in the summer of 2001 with my wife Wendy. We live just off Station Road, nice and handy for both the Old Town (pubs & retaurants) and Amersham on the Hill (tube/train & shops).

We moved from London where we had lived in Ealing for the previous 5 years (various places in London before that). Originally I'm from Rotherham, Wendy is from Lancaster. When we decided to move out of London we spent the whole summer of 2000 visiting towns and villages to the West and North West of London and finally decided on Amersham which seemed like a nice place to live combined with good transport links. We definitely made the right choice and have been very happy here.

We both work in IT, although different areas and locations. Wendy commutes into London everyday, I split my time between my company's Ipswich office and working from home.

My interests include most sports (I'm a Sunderland fan), music, walking and eating out. Most of our holidays involve mountains and lakes (UK & abroad).

That'll do for now. I look forward to getting more involved in the discussions on the forum and hopefully coming along to the next meet, whenever that might be.

I joined yesterday, and am still stumbling around the site to see what's what ( I am also still stumbling around the keyboard as I am not so hot when it comes to ANYTHING related to computers! )

My name is Sian Josette. I moved to Amersham in 2005, originally up on the hill, now down in the Old Town. The house I originally lived in has now been turned into 'luxury flats' It was the last standing detached house on the road, a wonderful place! sadly missed!

Still trying to set down roots as most of my time here has been split between running backwards and forwards from London due to family situations.

I am originally from Little Venice in London, my partner is a Surrey lad born and bred. We have a daughter who attends St. Mary's combined.

I have enjoyed living in Amersham, and hope to be here for many years to come!

My name is Sally I moved here with my husband and 2 young sons in July. We are currently in a rented house whilst the solicitors deal with the paperwork for the house we are buying in Chesham Bois. I grew up in Beaconsfield, my parents still live there and my brother, sister-in-law and their 2 children moved there to from west London. When deciding where in South Bucks to move to, we plumped for Amersham as we loved The Beacon as a school for our sons and felt Beaconsfield was getting too over developed. We loved our 9 years in Chiswick but my husband (from Hest Bank, near Lancaster) and I decided we wanted green fields and woodlands nearby. Chiswick has a thriving local forum www.chiswickw4.com which is apparently the most active community forum in the UK, I didn't post often but loved to read the lively views, news and discussion - I hope to do the same here.

I imagine the Amersham forum has fewer regulars than the Chiswick one, but it does get quite lively sometimes (speeding, Tesco and wheelie bins can generate heated debate, and the current Conspiracy thread has become entertainingly weird), so hopefully you'll enjoy it.

I'm Maryann and I signed up yesterday. I was browsing, looking at ideas for restaurants and pubs to celebrate my forthcoming birthday, and stumbled across your excellent website - so here I am. I've never used any sort of forum like this before, except for the ones run by computer magazines, so I'm a complete novice at this.

We've lived in Chorleywood for ages, and really like it here - lived in Harrow before. We tend to go towards Amersham for shopping, library etc. Chorleywood is great for very local shopping, but for a larger "shop" Amersham's the place. We're midway between Amersham and Rickmansworth, but I far prefer Amersham. I've got a Love - Hate relationship with Tesco: whatever direction I go, the biggest shop is Tesco. I hate it while I'm there, but if I go somewhere else I love it (i.e. Tesco) because nowhere else is quite as good or sells what I want. Rickmansworth is about to get a brand new Waitrose store - wish it was going to Amersham instead.

LOVE: Board games, Scrabble, Mah Jong, cats, eating out, chocolate, Liverpool Football Club, country walking

HATE: Slow drivers, speed cameras, cooking, housework, dieting, very hot weather

Amersham was going to have a Waitrose over twenty years ago. However the land that Waitrose brought and could not get planning permission for kick started the excecutive retirment home over development of Amersham on the Hill.

Hi everyone I'm Amy and I am 18yrs and thought i would introduce myself as I am new to this forum.

I moved to Amersham in 1995 from Ickenham in Middlesex. When i got here I went to St Mary's CofE primary school in Old Amerssham. From there i moved onto The Amersham Schpool in 2000 and stayed there until i completed my A levels and now i am moving onto BCUC where i will achieve my Degree

Im very close to my family this is probably why i am not moving away to do my 3 yrs degree although i plan to move away to get my Masters.

I work for Starbucks Coffee and have been there for about 6 months now. It is onyl part time so i can live whilst i'm at school/college.

I have been driving just over a year and a half and as those of you that have read my posts on here can tell i hate ********* drivers and drivers who have no concern for others on the road but thats another matter!

Things i like are: Photography and taking pictures whenever i can, walking, going out with my friends, clubbing, playing the drums, reading, watching films shopping.

Things i dislike are: Arrogant and rude people, people who brake rules, for exmaple; driving whilst talking on your mobile! smoking, impatient people. That's about it i think. Oh and CHAVS!!!

I like living in Amersham. The people seem friendly and there is little crime. Things are pretty much close together so that if you can't drive you can walk or catch a train easily, although isn't there a Met strike at the moment and a bus replacement at the weekends? I don't tend to use the train as i can drive.

Overall I like Amersham as a place an I do moan about it but I would rather live here than some seedy old town where crime rates are high.
