| "Ask" Restaurant, formerly "The Griffin" is one of the oldest coaching inns in the town. The rear part is Tudor, the front dates from the late 17th century when the building was much altered, there is a cobbled yard for coaches. At the rear are many outbuildings originally used to service the coaching inn trade. The Griffin was once an important staging post, it was here that some of Cromwell's troops were stationed during the Civil War. The Griffin was also the location of Amersham first petrol pump and the first home of the Amersham Bus Company, the buses having to enter and leave via the rear entrance on Whielden Street because they could not fit through the arch. The interior displays 17th century timberwork and what is claimed to be the remains of an old Chappell. The above picture shows a porch, this was not an original feature having been added in the 1920s or 1930 and was removed in 2002. |

| B&M Motors occupies the original bus garage site. The "new" bus garage built in the 1930s was demolished to make way for Tesco. Some thought the building should have been saved as it was a fine example of its style. |
