| Woodside Road is only partly a shopping street. Many of the shops used to be in converted houses. The building on the right is part of the 1960s development on Sycamore Road built on the site of houses, small shops and the original Free Church. The building beyond is now Laura Ashley, before that it was a Spar and Domino Pizza. Before that, it was an electrical store and Budgen, who opened the store in 1973 with an official opening by Henry Cooper. There used to be a Synagogue in this area. In 1953 when the Coronation was shown on TV for the first time, the Council put a TV in the hall for the public to watch. | |

| Further down Woodside Road. Many of the shops were former houses. Some of the houses were demolished in the 1960s/70s and replaced with modern developments, such as the above. | |
If you are interested in details of some of the old shops that used to be in Amersham, see the page here |

| The Free Church was built in 1962 replacing the original Free Church on Sycamore Road. Before the church was built, there used to be a bowling green on this site, the bowling green moved to Hervines Park. | |

| Woodside Road at the junction with Chiltern Avenue. The office block on the corner is an example of the type of development which has occurred in Amersham over the last 30 years. Much infilling and replacement of smaller buildings or large houses has been carried out as it has proved very difficult to build in the Green Belt. The building above stands on the site that used to be occupied by Ward and Medleys (furniture repository) and after that Freezer Fare. | |

| The Fire Station. Built in the 1950s, the station has recently become manned during the day. before that it was a retained station, local firemen being notified of a fire by the old air raid siren and after that pagers. The fire station was originally in Old Amersham. It then moved to Sycamore Road (by Woolworths) before arriving on Woodside Road. | |

| Woodside Road between Chiltern Avenue and Green Lane. The trees give an indication of the origins of the road's name. Behind the trees is the British Legion (there is also another branch of the British Legion in Whielden Street, Old Amersham). | |

| In 2006 some of the higher trees were cut down on safety grounds, altering the look of this part of the road. | |

| Old Hyrons, Woodside Road. This picture looks very rural, but is right in the middle of Amersham (the road was being re surfaced, hence no white lines). The building is the old stable block from Hyrons Farm, one of the original farms on Amersham Common, which was swallowed up when Amersham on the Hill was developed in the 20th century. | |

| Black Horse bridge at the junction of Raans Road, White Lion Road and Woodside Road. The bridge gets its name from the old Black Horse pub, which closed when its licence was transferred to the Station Hotel, now the Iron Horse pub. | |
