Sunset Over Amersham

Amersham does not suffer from extreme weather. Amersham on the Hill is perhaps more prone to snow being high up in the Chilterns, than London. The climate in London is actually noticeably warmer by 1 or 2 degrees, this is caused by London's urban heat island.
On 30 January 2003, Amersham and the rest of the east of the UK and London received about 2 to 3 inches of snow. Amersham did not experience the heaviest snow, but I received reports that some drivers heading towards London had to abandon their cars and try the trains. Unfortunately, the Underground was not very reliable, the build up of ice on the rails meant the trains had difficulties. Further south and east in Hertfordshire and Essex, a number of drivers were stranded overnight in their cars on the M1 and M11

On 8th February 2007, Amersham experienced its heaviest snow fall for many years. Unlike in 2003, people were more prepared. See here for more pictures.
River Misbourne
The River Misbourne by Town Mill. In 2000 the Misbourne burst its banks, flooding a number of properties along High Street and causing me to get wet feet when taking this picture from a flooded public footpath.

For many years, the river had dried up probably caused by the reduced rainfall and high amounts of pumping further up stream. The river bed all but disappeared in many places. A multi million pound scheme was undertaken to bring water back to the Misbourne and it is a pleasure to see it flow again, although in the summer of 1999 it did dry up for a while
