Snow in Amersham
8th February 2007

On February 8, 2007, Amersham experienced its heaviest snow for many years. The snow had been forecast and most were prepared for it. The rail service struggled, but the biggest problem was the state of the roads and pavements. Many decided not to risk the conditions and drive to work. Many schools closed (although in the past many remember going to school in much worse conditions, but times have changed). With children and parents at home, sledging was very popular. Below are pictures of the day.

Chiltern Avenue at 10:00. This busy route to the station and council offices is still difficult to drive along, never mind walk along the pavements.

Usually at 7:15 in the morning the station is busy, but it was quieter today. The Chiltern services were running with a delayed service on the Metropolitan Line

At 7:30 in the evening a Metropolitan train arrives at Amersham. The platforms had been cleared of snow, unlike most of the pavements in the area.
